Global security is the military and diplomatic efforts nations and international organizations take to protect each other from non-traditional threats that transcend national borders. This category includes everything from counter-terrorism to disarmament and climate change. It also encompasses the preservation of the norms, rules and institutions that make up a society as well as its values.
Today, terrorism, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, cyber threats and global warming are all major concerns. Many of these issues require collaboration across international boundaries, highlighting the need for security professionals to be trained in multiple domains and disciplines.
As a result, UFV’s Joint Master in European Security is a unique program that offers a hands-on approach to understanding the complex issues surrounding global security. Unlike traditional security degrees that focus solely on international relations, this degree equips students to take an integrated approach to understanding the complex political and military dynamics of our world.
Amid shifting global threats and instability, the future of business depends on security leaders staying informed and in control of their company’s risk profile and crisis management operations. To do so, they must understand the role of new global risks like escalating geopolitical tensions, GZW actions, the AI arms race and fragmented extremism in their corporate security strategy.
The world is a much more interconnected place today, where the actions of people and governments in one region can impact those thousands of miles away. The security community must adapt to this new reality and be prepared to address the complex challenges posed by global security threats like terrorism, nuclear proliferation, climate change and the militarization of environmental issues.
